We have stunning, unspoiled coastline near Sea View Campsite. A beautiful stretch of the South West coast path from Dartmouth to Salcombe is right on our doorstep. Located just 1.5 miles from Slapton Sands, a 2-mile beach with Torcross village at its southern end, our South Devon camping site offers a perfect base for exploration. Discover Slapton Ley, a natural freshwater lake, and enjoy nature activities at the Slapton Ley Field Centre throughout the summer.

The area played a role in World War II rehearsals for the D-Day landings. Today, peace reigns, with a Sherman Tank at Torcross and a granite memorial in the centre of the beach as permanent reminders. Our South Devon camping site was used, during the rehearsals, for and exercise in building an airfield.

Award-winning Blackpool Sands is 5 miles away, while Bantham, a renowned surfing beach, is 11 miles away. Explore numerous natural coves and the coastal towns and villages, like Beesands, Salcombe, Hope Cove, Thurlestone and East Portlemouth. Quiet beaches and scenic coastal paths provide a serene escape for walkers.

Beaches

This part of South Devon is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has many lovely beaches. We have reviewed some of our favourites and the most popular. Please note that the distances given from the campsite are approximate and the postcodes may not take you right up to the beaches.

Slapton Sands – 1.5 miles
Slapton Sands is a 3 mile stretch of sand, fine and coarser pebbles.
Good for deep water swimming, kayaking and beach fishing. The village of Torcross at the southern end of the beach has several cafes, a shop and a pub. The North end of the beach has an ice cream and snack van.
Slapton Sands has 3 parking areas, one at each end (with toilets) and another in the middle. Because it is so large it never gets really crowded.
Parking charges apply to the car parks but limited free parking also available.
Dogs are welcome on this beach.

blackpool sands

Blackpool Sands – 5 miles
Blackpool Sands is an award-winning, blue flag (clean) beach with cafe, shop, toilets, showers and disabled facilities. The beach is not fine sand but small pebbles, and shelves steeply. There is a sandpit area and kayaks, wetsuits etc. are for hire.
Lifeguards are on duty in the summer months.
Parking charges vary throughout the year.
Strictly no dogs are allowed on this beach.

Hope Cove – 12 miles
Hope Cove is a small village with hotels, a pub, cafe, restaurants, a shop/post office, lifeboat station and two small sandy beaches at its centre; Harbour Beach and Mouthwell Sands. Parking is in the centre of the village – Pay and Display meter (TQ7 3HQ).
Harbour Beach is enclosed by the harbour wall and is home to a variety of small boats. The harbourmaster supervises activities on the water from this beach. Boats may be launched from and left at this beach for a fee. Toilets are at the back of this beach. Dogs are welcome on this beach.
Mouthwell Beach is a short walk away and has a lifeguard presence during the summer. No dogs are allowed on this beach.

Bantham – 11 miles
Bantham is a flat beach favoured by many for its fine sand and shallow water, and is suitable for surfing and bodyboarding. It is prone to strong currents, as it is at the mouth of a river, but is manned by lifeguards and is home to the Bantham Surf Life Saving Club.
The Bantham Surf Academy provides the opportunity to have surfing lessons or hire boards and wetsuits.
The car park is behind the dunes and has toilets.
There is a gourmet food van selling hot and cold drinks, and food including paninis, burgers and freshly-baked cakes, situated in the car park.

South Milton Sands – 11 miles
South Milton Sands, is a west-facing coarse sandy beach with rockpools, which is very
popular with locals. It is great for evening barbecues as the sun can be seen setting over the sea.
Lifeguards are present during the summer, and maintain separate swimming and boating areas. It is a good beach for swimming, rock-pooling, kayaks, inflatables, bodyboarding and paddleboarding.
Watersports equipment hire offers kayaks, paddleboards, wetsuits and more.
Toilets are at the end of the National Trust car park at the rear of the beach, next to the cafe/restaurant.
Parking charges apply (National Trust members free).

Dartmouth – 8 miles

Head to the picturesque riverside town of Dartmouth, where the Dartmouth Steam Railway offers a scenic trip past Agatha Christie’s Greenway house, to Paignton, or take one of the many boat trips up the river Dart to Totnes, or around the coast. Explore Dartmouth Castle and Totnes Castle, and and wander amongst the towns’ historic buildings. Kayak up the river, book a fishing trip or for a bit of culture, see a live show or film at The Flavel arts centre. Dartmouth outdoor heated swimming pool is popular with all ages. The Dartmouth Royal Regatta in late August is the highlight of Dartmouth’s year with many activities both on and off the water. Woodlands Leisure Park, just outside Dartmouth, is the South West’s largest family theme park, catering to all ages with water chutes, assault courses, farm animals, bumper boats, and toboggans.

Kingsbridge – 7 miles

In Kingsbridge, the Lady Mary Ferry offers scenic cruises and a car-free trip to Salcombe. The Kings Cinema shows all the latest releases. Explore the history of Kingsbridge at the Cookworthy Museum, book a Stand up Paddleboard session or try out the new Skate Park. Kingsbridge has a wealth of excellent take away and eat-in restaurants – try the Pizza Planet or the award winning Mahabarat Indian restaurant. For the younger ones an estuary-side short train ride from Ria End station will take them to the local play park and ice cream cafe.

Salcombe – 12 miles

The sailing town of Salcombe has become increasingly popular over the last few years and has many celebrity residents. The best way to see it is by boat – try Salcombe Sea-N-Shore who offer fantastically exhilarating fast rib rides out of Salcombe and around our lovely coastline, for wildlife spotting, trips around the Start Point lighthouse to the lost village of Hallsands and more serene estuary cruises. Take the passenger ferry across the estuary to the sandy beach at Mill Bay or enjoy the coves at North and South sands.
